Those funds, which are incapable of generating income for individuals, in excess of the costs to secure that income, are pooled in IOTA accounts the interest from which provides legal services for the poor and other law-related public interest programs approved by the Florida Supreme Court. Please make sure that you comply with the trust accounting rules by placing all short term or nominal funds of clients and third parties in your IOTA trust account. The approved changes to Bar Rule 5-1.1 (g), which governs the IOTA program, were less restrictive than proposed by the court’s Task Force on the Distribution of IOTA Funds, including increasing the overhead limit for legal aid agencies from 10 to 15 and expanding the proposed time for the Foundation to award IOTA receipts. The unlimited FDIC insurance is available at all financial institutions that participate in the FDIC’s Transaction Account Guarantee Program. The successful candidate should have a familiarity with lawyers' trust accounts and the operation of the IOTA programs, including familiarity with interest rate comparability, the effect of the federal funds rate and other factors on IOTA revenue, and related banking and trust account issues. Candidates should possess the management experience necessary to direct the Foundation’s operations, and manage Foundation staff, as well as experience overseeing large budgets. In fulfilling that mission, the Foundation maintains relationships with The Florida Bar, the Supreme Court of Florida, grantee organizations, the Florida Legislature, Florida’s Congressional delegation, other elected officials, governmental agencies, social service organizations, voluntary bar associations, present and potential funders, present and potential partners and the public at large the successful candidate will demonstrate skills for establishing and maintaining these relationships. Qualifications: Candidates should have a law degree from an ABA law school and membership in The Florida Bar, or the ability to become a member of The Florida Bar soon after being hired (strongly desired) In addition, the successful candidate for this position will possess a demonstrable, verifiable history of personal commitment to goals consistent with the Foundation’s mission and a deep understanding of the civil justice community and its constituencies both in Florida and nationally. The Executive Director is the chief spokesperson for the Foundation, representing the Foundation to internal and external audiences, conveying the vision of the Foundation and motivating staff and all stakeholders to work collaboratively to achieve the strategic goals of the Foundation. In conjunction with the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director sets a vision for organizational development, oversees systems, structures and internal policies and leads the Foundation in its mission of providing strategic support and funding for civil legal services. The Executive Director is appointed by and reports to the Board of Directors of the Foundation and serves as the chief executive officer of the Foundation. ![]() Additional support for the Foundation comes from gifts from Florida attorneys, law firms, corporations, foundations and cy pres awards. Principal support for the Foundation’s charitable activities comes from Florida’s Interest on Trust Accounts (IOTA) program, which was the nation’s first interest on trust account program.
